We are Brett, Megan and Emerson…

…and we invite you to take a glimpse into our big adventure.

How it all started

Until this last year, we were living the American dream in Seattle, right down to the white picket fence. But despite all we had to be grateful for, we weren’t living our dream.

We had been dreaming for some time about buying a piece of land and building our own retreat, one we wanted to share with others and turn into a family business. But we didn’t know where...

Making the choice

One rainy October weekend in 2023, we hit a wall, deciding we couldn’t continue like this – a couple more rats in the race. We needed to do something DRASTIC to achieve our dream.

In the span of one day, we determined that we would buy a used RV, renovate it, and travel the country in search of our new home, our future dreamland.

Taking the leap

Our journey officially began when we bought a used RV on Craigslist in November 2023. This was to be our home on our cross-country adventures, so we set the bar high for our DIY renovation.

During this process, we learned a lot about how to create a vision and work together as a family to bring it to life. We’re proud of how it turned out and what we were able to accomplish together.

Into the unknown

After selling most of our belongings, leaving our home in Seattle and completing the renovation of our RV, we set out in July 2024 to see the country and find the spot that felt like home.

We made a large loop, visiting nearly 40 states over 5 months. We were enchanted and inspired by what we saw, and the people we met along the way.

Finding home

When we visited New England, about halfway through the trip, it was like we took a collective deep breath. Maine felt like it. We loved the historic small towns, the wild woods, the proximity to the ocean.

Our dream for a retreat in nature started to take shape, and for the remainder of the trip, we worked tirelessly on building out our plans for what was to become Kinwright.

Our experience

In addition to our personal enthusiasm and tireless drive to make our dream come true, we each have extensive professional experience that is relevant to building and running Kinwright.
